The Wisconsin No Child Left Inside Coalition is working to develop an Environmental Literacy Plan for Wisconsin that will address the environmental education needs of Wisconsin’s pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade schools and will pay special attention to creating more opportunities to get kids outside. The Plan will recommend a comprehensive strategy to ensure every child graduates with the environmental skills and knowledge needed to contribute to a sustainable future.

Wisconsin has a strong environmental education foundation already established, with active schools, supporting organizations, and abundant opportunities to get outside in rural and urban settings. The Environmental Literacy Plan will build upon these strengths, and suggest priorities for present and future attention. It will lay out the next steps towards fulfilling on our State’s commitment to ensure all people in Wisconsin are environmentally literate.

State Superintendent Evers has formally asked the Coalition to develop the Environmental Literacy Plan for Wisconsin. A Steering Committee meets each month to draft the Plan. The Wisconsin No Child Left Inside Coalition Steering Committee is made up of representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education, Wisconsin Environmental Education Board, Wisconsin Environmental Education Foundation, Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Environmental Science Teachers Network, Milwaukee Public Schools, the Green Charter School Network, and the US EPA’s Environmental Education and Training Partnership. The broader Coalition is kept updated on progress, provides input and feedback to guide the plan development, and ultimately, will play a key role in implementing and evaluating Wisconsin’s Environmental Literacy Plan.

Wisconsin’s Environmental Literacy Plan will be compliant with the pending national No Child Left Inside (NCLI) legislation. The No Child Left Inside Act requires States develop, implement, and evaluate a State Environmental Literacy Plan in order to be eligible to receive funding associated with the Act. Currently, the bill suggests an appropriation of $100 million to support the State Environmental Literacy Plans. So, everyone at work thinks you are hilarious! People at parties always flock to you so you can tell them a new joke. In school, you won the class clown trophy and you are totally proud of it. Terrific! Now you want to learn how to make money being a Comedian. Is it time to take your funniness to a new level?

Many people are just funny, but it is not always easy to convert that to a career. Having solid and funny material is one of the keys to becoming successful. But how do you find out if your material is any good? Well, that is really the easy part. There are plenty of places where you will be able to try out your stuff. Be prepared to fail! When patrons have paid to be entertained, they expect you to be good.

Hopefully that happens often. If it does, then perhaps, with an investment of time and the willingness to take a lot of abuse, you will make it in stand up. The business of humor is not usually a simple one. Making someone laugh at a party is easy. Finding material that sets you apart from the thousands of other comics, may not be quite as easy as you think.

Before you attempt to find a venue which will allow you to take the stage, you must have good material. Write about the things that make you laugh. Try not to think about ways to make others laugh. You will seldom entertain every patron with everything that you say. You are looking to entertain the majority. In an 8 minute set, strive to get 3 or 4 times when the audience applauds. This is a great test of your material.

With the mass appeal of viral marketing, it is pretty easy to record yourself and place it on one of the many sites that show videos. People are constantly searching for humorous items, so if you are funny, they will find you. If you have interesting opinions on current events or the crisis of the day, your viral audience will let you know.

This industry is all about being different. There are thousands of comics and most of them make a living doing it. If you see them on television, they are full time. They may work strip clubs and high school dance, but they are getting paid to be funny. If they can do it, perhaps you have a chance. The biggest challenge is having enough material.

When you are composing material, be sure to have some flow to it. If you are telling a story, try to tie it into something else you have already spoken about. Audiences like that because it shows that you are listening to yourself! The more time you spend developing your own persona, the better you will be and the quicker you may experience success.

People in a club are there to laugh and they want to laugh. So, if you have a nice personality you may get some laughs. When you win the audience over, you may even get sympathy laughs! Not likely what you are looking for, but a laugh is a laugh. Most importantly realize that you will need to become callous. People want your opinion and if it is funny, they will laugh. So, learn how to make money being a comedian, just plan on multiple failures and some major setbacks. Deal with those and who knows, maybe you will become the next big star!

The Government Takeover of Student Loans

When it comes to making money and running things efficiently, the government does not have a good record. Other than waging war and the police force it manages, there are few things that are run well by the politicians in Washington or in each state. If it weren’t for the government’s ability to print money and tax us, it would have been out of business long ago.

It used to be said that the post office did a good job but now they are losing money every quarter and having to raise their prices as a result. Even with the price of stamps going up, the post office still continues to operate in the red. Private competitors like Fed Ex and UPS are thriving and doing successfully what the post office once did.

With a record that is so poor in executing any kind of business, is there any reason why we should let the government take over the college loans industry in our country. President Obama has put up a bill that will be addressed sometime in 2010 that would remove all student loans from the private sector and make the US government the issuer of such loans. This looks like another case of the politicians thinking they know more than the rest of us.

Besides the obvious question of why we should let this happen is another question about whether we want suits in Washington deciding which of our kids get loans and which ones don’t. Those students who don’t get loans are probably not going to be able to attend college and it is none of the governments business of who goes and who doesn’t. Our government is there to protect us and not to be our mother and father.

As American citizens, we need to be very careful to protect our freedoms and not let them be eroded from us. If we are to not stand up for our rights, there will come a day when we look back and wonder how we got to the point where the government controls everything. Student loans need to remain in the private sector where they have a better chance of being administered fairly and were the government does not have total control over them.

People still talk about the 2009 stimulus bill even though it was passed over a year ago. While it is still in the news almost every week, many people don’t seem to understand that it was there to give aid to large businesses as well as state governments. There was nothing in it for the average guy on the street.

If you are a person that needed help, one of your only options for benefiting from the bill was to get a job that came about as a result of the stimulus. It is also possible that you could have gotten some form of mortgage assistance as well but that didn’t apply to too many people. The bill did not impact government grants even though many people continue to look for grants thinking there are more of them available than usual.

Unfortunately, people fortunes have not gotten better from the bill. Today there is still high unemployment and jobs continue to be extremely hard to find. When you think about our economic troubles today, one might wonder if we got anything at all from that 787 billion dollar bill?

Whenever there is news about the government passing legislation of that size, there are many people who think the government is just handing out money. They could be remembering the stimulus check that many people got during President Bush’s last term and hoping there will be another windfall like that coming in the mail. That stimulus was meant to spur on the economy and the most recent stimulus bill was meant to try to save the economy.

People should know that there never has been anything that is really free money, as it has to be paid for in some way. It is too bad more people don’t pay taxes so that they can understand and feel the pain when taxes are raised. If higher taxes impacted everyone, more people would be opposed to them and maybe politicians would think twice before throwing away our tax dollars.

Office Fashion Has No Deadlines

Gone are the days when you would walk into the cafeteria finding everyone dressed up just like each other. I’d probably feel like just one of the penguins all wrapped up in a suit consuming my cold lunch in the office cafeteria together with a hundred more employees looking identical. That’s why I have already been really extremely thankful that numerous creative designers have been coming up with current office fashion that employees can easily wear back and forth from the office without catching the public’s bland eye for fashion that only your designers see. And it is me telling my colleagues at the office to just try to outdo all that.

But come to think of it, there will be a lot more of stuff to buy on a regular basis. Clothes aren’t anything and there’s life after a long day of work in the office. I’d rather save my hard-earned money and spend it on stuff that I primarily need. The wants come after if I can afford it, just like what Suze Orman would always say.

The British Government made an ambitious carbon emission cutting pledge at the Copenhagen climate convention at the end of 2009. It promised to cut UK carbon emissions by 60% by the year 2050. That’s a pretty big deal and it means there will have to be a lot of green changes soon. One change will be in increasing the uptake of solar panel installation in Britain.

At present, only 1% of homes in the UK have any form of solar power generation at all. That’s a terribly poor figure and is really highlighted when you consider that in Germany, it is 40% of homes. Germany also has a very similar climate to the UK, which rules out the old ‘the weather isn’t good enough,’ excuse for not installing solar panels. Contrary to popular belief, in fact, the UK receives 65% of the radiation received in Spain and a 55% of that experienced on the equator, so in spite of a rather dull climate, we do get enough radiation to run the panels.

In order to encourage more of us to install solar PV panels and generate our own electricity, the UK Government’s feed-in tariff comes into play in April 2010. The idea behind this is that businesses and homes installing solar PV panels will be paid for every single unit of energy they generate – this includes energy they use themselves! They’ll be paid at premium rates depending upon the type of system they have. In addition, they will be paid at even higher rates for the units they generate and use themselves.

All of this essentially means that solar panel installation has become more of an investment than an expense. With a realistic return on solar PV panels of around 8% a year and the fact that solar panel installations can add around 10% to the value of the your property, the investment is an attractive one.

And that is certainly what the Government hope. Their ambitious pledges at the Copenhagen climate convention at the end of 2009 must be met and solar panel installation is looking like the most promising means of making it happen.
