Supporting troops overseas through military care packages does not have to be hard. I’m often asked for ideas and tips for military care packages, so I’ve decided to write this short article with tips on sending packages to friends and family stationed overseas.

Always include a letter in the package, even if its only a note. But if you’d like to send more, try keeping a daily log or journal. Write a few lines in it throughout the day just telling him/her how you’re doing and that you’re thinking of him or her. Remember to date the pages so your soldier will be able to keep track of your days and see how often they’re actually on your mind. It won’t be long before you’re sending quite a bit and your soldier will love reading about your days.

Second, putting together a military care package shouldn’t be a difficult thing. Don’t spend your time looking for the “perfect gift” or stress out over what you’re sending. If you were only going to send one package to your soldier while he/she was deployed, it would be worth stressing over, but wouldn’t it be better and easier to send simple every day items as often as you can? If your soldier loves beef jerky or hard candy, make a package out of those and next week you’ll be able to think of some other simple items that you didn’t think of this week. The military isn’t going to let our brave men and women get hungry, we’re focusing on showing our support with small luxuries Uncle Sam’s forgotten about. Anything that will let your soldier know that s/he is still in our hearts and minds.

Unless your soldier asks for it specifically, stay away from items that the military issues. Socks and underwear are a great example. Most of the time, these items are available to our soldiers, but if you’re unsure, certainly email your soldier and find out. Chap stick and sunscreen are also items soldiers need, but they may have plenty already – so check. Ask your soldier if they have access to DVD players, microwaves, etc. Different bases will have different amenities. Remember, if you send DVDs or magazines, no explicit stuff.

Lastly, if in your daily routine, you aren’t able to make all the rounds necessary to send a military care package, try searching for military care package sites where you can select items and packages to create a custom military care package and have it sent directly overseas to your soldier. It takes minutes to order, packages are put together with care, and its a simple way to show your support to our military overseas.

Showing this type of support for our nations military is essential to us all. For those of us with friends or family members stationed overseas it’s imperative. Find a way to show your support for the brave men and women overseas.
